Thanksgiving 2016

If you know me, it should come as no surprise that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

The thing about Thanksgiving is that it’s often more of an embodiment of the giving spirit, which is a direct connection to the Contribution category of True Wealth. A key component of True Wealth is creating the opportunities to have experiences with the people you love and care about and doing the things that matter most. Financial Assets (Financial Wealth) such as money and possessions just help to facilitate these things which lead to acquiring Experience Assets or Experience Wealth. Many times these experiences afford us greater ability to develop our Contribution Assets through giving, whether it be our money and time, or even a smile.

Thanksgiving creates an excellent opportunity to have the experience of spending time with your family and friends and often prompts people to travel long distances just to be together with those they care about for merely the cost of dinner. The stories from before, after and during these times at the dinner table become our most valued treasures.

Thanksgiving also provides opportunities for service which contribute significantly to our happiness. There are many examples of a Thanksgiving host taking in some stragglers who don’t have family nearby and are unable to travel, or perhaps you have been the recipient of someone else offering to do this at some point? Unlike other holidays or birthdays, there’s no pressure to find and purchase the perfect gift. The entire purpose of Thanksgiving is gratitude, the joy of service and good company. I’ve learned that much of my personal joy in life is derived from Contribution Assets by taking the opportunity to serve those around me. Thanksgiving provides us with a perfect platform to do this with many of the people who matter most to us.

As we approach Thanksgiving 2016, it becomes clearer every day how important gratitude is in our lives.  Three recent events drive this home for me. Last week, I learned about “World Toilet Day” while listening to KIRO talk radio.  You can learn more about it at http://www.worldtoiletday.info/.   Think about having no toilet on Thanksgiving, or any day for that matter, and it truly emphasizes how much we have to be grateful for every day.

The second was “National Adoption Day” on November 19th which is a collective national effort to raise awareness of the more than 100,000 children in foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families. More can be learned about this at http://www.nationaladoptionday.org/. Both National Adoption Day and World Toilet day help me to appreciate my own lot in life but instill an urgency to add to my Contribution Wealth.

Lastly, we’ve just concluded one of the most divisive general election cycles in our nation’s history. Contrary to the media and politicians, I believe that we have far more that unites us than divides us. This holiday is a great opportunity to remind ourselves of this. We’ll likely all be spending some time with someone who is either family or a friend who has a different political ideology than us.  You’ll still share a great meal and happy experiences with them. Take the occasion as a time to talk about personal Core Wealth, both theirs and yours. When you discuss what really matters to them, I’m confident you’ll find that it sounds a lot like your own hopes and dreams for your loved ones and our great nation. There is a lot of common ground that can be easily discovered when sharing our Core Assets with those we love and respect.

You may be concerned about the future as the power in the nation’s capital shifts to a different team. Given the events of recent years, those concerns are well founded, but with the right planning and guidance, most of these worries can be mitigated and a clear path to financial security plotted. We are confident in our Wealth Presentation Model, protecting your assets and find new opportunities for investment. Protecting and growing the Financial Assets you need to facilitate the other likely more important parts of your True Wealth is a part of the service we offer our valued clients. Your plan in place here at GWM is designed to give you the peace of mind that during whatever stage of life you are in you’ll be able to facilitate similar gatherings even when they aren’t officially holidays!

We wish you all a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving this year whether it be with those you love or with new friends. Thank you for the opportunity to be of service.

With Gratitude,

Steve Goldbloom
